Mrs. Thelma N. McKoy, 96, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2023. The celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 12:00 PM, with a viewing from 11:00 to 11:50 at South End Presbyterian Church, 335 Freeland Lane, Charlotte, NC.    

As a lifelong educator, she enjoyed teaching history to high schoolers in North and South Carolina. As the author of a legal reform book, she gave public speeches, including on radio and TV.  She joined many civic organizations to empower community causes, earning her many honors and awards.  Most of all, she is loved and revered by her family and many friends.

 

She was the last of eleven children born to Peter & Lola Newton of Scotland County, NC. She is survived by her daughter, three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.  Her spirit lives on through the many lives she has touched.

 

In lieu of flowers, you might consider making a donation to South End Presbyterian Church in the honor of Thelma McKoy.  

 

A private interment service will be held for the immediate family after cremation at Beatties Ford Memorial Gardens.
