Doris Elizabeth McDuffie

Doris Elizabeth McDuffie was born on September 28, 1940 in Bladen County North Carolina to the late Roy W. McDuffie and Essie M. Guions McDuffie. Doris was called by God into her heavenly Home on Sunday, October 18, 2020.

Doris attended the public schools of Bladen County and graduated from Bladen Central High School in 1958. After many achievements and accomplishments from high school her potential was recognized and appreciated by her mentors and she was awarded a scholarship to attend Livingstone College of Salisbury, NC. Doris received her Bachelor of Science, graduating in May 1962. After graduating from Livingstone College, Doris started her teaching career in the state of Iowa. She later moved to New York where she taught a number of subjects from Physical Education to Business Courses for middle school students in Manhattan and Brooklyn, NY. Doris received a Masters degree from Columbia University – Teachers College, New York. Doris later received a Master’s of Science in Education Degree from Long Island University, Richard L. Conolly College, The Brooklyn Center. Doris’ career expanded over 30 plus years mentoring and educating throughout the Burroughs of New York. Upon her retirement in June1997, she returned to North Carolina and settled in her home in Raleigh to be amongst her loving family.

Doris confessed Christ at an early age and was a devoted Christian her entire life. An active member of Browns Creek A.M.E. Zion Church in Elizabethtown, NC before becoming a dedicated member of Body of Christ Church in Raleigh, NC. She was a dedicated servant at North Raleigh United Methodist Church, Raleigh, NC where she enjoyed participating in their Music Ministry. Other organizations to which she gave her time and services include: The Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., Livingstone College National Alumni Association Brooklyn – Queens Chapter and Raleigh-Wake Chapter, and the Livingstone National Alumni Association, Salisbury, NC. She was crowned Miss Alumni Livingstone College National Alumni Association in 1992-1993. She served on a number of boards and committees receiving numerous awards and accolades over her years. Doris loved to fellowship with family and her numerous circles of friends in New York, Bible Application Class (BAC), Silver Bells and Joy Group from North Raleigh United Methodist Church and friends of The Durant Trails Community where she resided.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Essie Mae and Roy McDuffie, and her brother, George Johnson. Cherishing her memories are her sister, Frances McKoy (Leandrews) of Hope Mills, NC, Sister-in-law, Ms. Pamela Johnson of Huntsville, AL, a very special life long friend, Juanita Raye Harper, of Columbia, MD and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
